First Baptist Church celebrates more than 115 years in ministry in downtown Oklahoma City.
Born in the wake of the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889, FBC has sought to be a meaningful presence of
Christ since that time. Since moving to its present location in 1911, renowned pastors have
filled its pulpit. From Mordecai Hamm, the evangelist who led Billy Graham to Christ,
to Billy White, whose weekly radio broadcast touched the tens of thousands of lives, to
Herschel Hobbs, the famed teacher and voice of the Baptist Hour, and Gene Garrison, known to
many through the weekly television broadcasts of the First Baptist worship service, First
Baptist Church has been a leader in Baptist culture and tradition since its earliest days.
We are proud to be the church from which Dr. Herschel Hobbs wrote his
Baptist Faith and Message
in 1963, a document this church still affirms. We are equally honored to work alongside great men
and women of faith today, leaders from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, to the Baptist
University of the Americas, from those who direct the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children to
those who provide medical care and spiritual care to people around the world. First Baptist Church
continues its proud tradition of leadership and partnership in the Baptist world today.
