Country-Folk Artist Kate Campbell to Perform at First Baptist |
|
Acoustic guitarist and vocalist Kate Campbell will appear live in concert on Friday, February 24, at
8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City (FBCOKC) in partnership with Women in Baptist
Life (WIBL). The free concert will be held in the intimate setting of the church's First Family
Theatre and serves as a centerpiece for the annual WIBL conference, which runs February 24-25.
Music critics have called Campbell a "sparkling diamond in a field of coal," comparing her to
Mary Chapin Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith and Lucinda Williams for her storytelling and
musical skills. Campbell blends country, folk and blues into tales drawn from the culture of the modern
South. She's "as satisfying as barbecue and sweet tea," says Entertainment Weekly.
"Kate is an unapologetic Christian, but her music crosses a wide range of musical genres,"
said FBCOKC senior pastor Tom Ogburn. "She has also enjoyed rave reviews from sources as diverse
as the Boston Globe, National Public Radio and USA Today."
Campbell released her first album, the award-winning Songs from the Levee in 1994. Since then she has
released nine additional albums. Her newest CD, Blues and Lamentations, was released in September.
