First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City (FBCOKC) welcomes lyricist Ragan Courtney and his wife,
Grammy-award-winning singer Cynthia Clawson, in a special , updated performance of Courtney's famed
musical, "Celebrate Life!" on Sunday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m.
First performed in 1972, this classic musical, which Courtney wrote along with lyricist Buryl Red, s
tands as one of the most popular Christian musicals of all time, having sold more than 1 million
copies-more than any other church musical in history. One piece, "In Remembrance," has become the
most popular song of the musical and now appears in several hymnals.
Courtney has published five books of poetry, 11 Christian musicals, numerous individual songs and
one Broadway musical. Clawson's voice was dubbed, "The most awesome voice in gospel music," by
Billboard Magazine. She has received a Grammy and five Dove Awards for her work. The two
now serve as co-pastors of The Sanctuary in Austin, Tex.
"Celebrate Life" tells the story of Jesus in simple, dramatic terms. When they wrote it, Courtney
and Red hoped "that the message and music will communicate to young and old alike in a way that
will permit all persons to celebrate the life of Jesus Christ, our Lord."
FBCOKC music ministers Bruce and Kim Greer will perform with Courtney and Clawson, along with
other vocalists and a dramatic troupe.
The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, call the church at 405-235-4255.
