Bruce Greer	Recording artist Bruce Greer joins music staff at First Baptist, OKC
	Composer, singer and producer Bruce Greer will join the staff of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City as interim minister of music on June 17. Greer has had hundreds of choral, orchestral and piano works published, and in 1999 received the Dove Award for Musical of the Year, "Mary, Did You Know?" "Bruce is a friend, as well as an exceptionally talented musician, and we can hardly wait for him to join us here as part of our worship-planning and music ministry team," said Dr. Tom Ogburn, FBCOKC senior pastor. "First Baptist Church has an outstanding music staff, as well as a rich musical history, and Bruce will bring yet another dimension to our worship experience here." A native of Longview, Tex., Greer began arranging hymns for choir and piano by age 12. By the time he was in high school, Greer's compositions were being performed by his church and school choirs. After graduating from Baylor University in 1984, he worked for six years as creative director for Word Records and Music, the world's largest producer of Christian music. After feeling God's call on his life in 1990, Greer took a step of faith, leaving Word to pursue a full-time writing and concert career. Since that time, Greer has had hundreds of choral, orchestral, and piano works published. He has done extensive concert and recording work as a solo artist and also with vocalist extraordinaire, Cynthia Clawson. "I am excited about coming and being a part of FBCOKC," Greer said. "When Tom asked me to come help, I really felt like God said, ‘You can do that!’" Greer will commute to Oklahoma City from his home in Flower Mound, Tex., to work with FBCOKC's choir and worship-planning team. The position doesn't come without its challenges, but Greer says he is ready to get started. "Throughout my life the greatest experiences have come out of saying yes to God when it wasn't the easiest way. You see, I say this because I'm currently serving as interim at a church 15 minutes from my house. Why would I leave that task to do this? Stepping out like this is always exciting because I get to see God work in me and move me out of my comfort zone while He gets all the glory!" Bruce Greer's Website
