Concert to Kick Off Centennial Revival at First Baptist, OKC |
|
A performance by Grammy- and Dove Award-winning vocalist Cynthia Clawson will mark the first event in a
five-day Centennial Revival at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. Clawson will sing at 7:00 p.m. on
Saturday, September 29, in the church's sanctuary at 1201 North Robinson.
Established in 1889, just months after the Land Run, First Baptist Church has provided civic leadership,
as well as ministry initiatives, to Oklahoma City. The state's centennial year seemed a fitting time to
bring a revival to downtown.
"It's been nearly a generation since we hosted a revival," said Dr. Tom Ogburn, senior pastor.
"Renewal is underway all around us, and our church is experiencing a renewal of its own, both
spiritually and in numbers. It's an incredibly exciting time to be a downtown church."
Performances by Dove Award-winning composer and producer Bruce Greer and renowned pianist Max Lyall,
both members of FBCOKC's music ministry staff, will highlight the revival meetings. John L. Edwards,
organist at First Presbyterian Church, will perform on October 2.
Following each musical performance, one of four noted preachers will speak. The full schedule:

"This special event will help refresh our spirits and the spiritual atmosphere downtown as we
launch our capital campaign," Ogburn said. "Often people talk about First Baptist in the past
tense or as a long-ago presence in our city. But I urge people to join us for this event to see for
themselves that God is, indeed, moving in our city and in our church."
Dessert will be served at the conclusion of each night's service. Preschool child care will be available.
